The Nene Card
We currently have almost 3500 users on our User Card data base out of which possibly 500 or so regularly visit the Centre. Of those 500, possibly 50% of the data held in the data base is out of date, for example addresses, phone numbers etc. If a paddler on the course were to have a serious accident, then the Centre might have problems in trying to contact his/her next of kin.
The current User Card system will therefore be phased out during 2008 and the new system phased in.
The new card will be called the Nene Card.
- Will show the paddlers name, card number and valid date. A photo will not be required.
- The Card will be valid until 31st Dec 2008, then the Card must be renewed - this will ensure
all the data held by the Centre is up-to-date.
- To cover the cost of producing Nene Cards, a fee of £2.50 will be charged.
- During 2008, any paddler with an old style User Card will be able to transfer to the new Nene Card foc.
After 2008, the normal fee will be applied.
- The minimum qualification for a Nene Card is: BCU 3 Star – either the old, or the new syllabus.
If this qualification is not held, but the paddler has some experience of paddling whitewater,
then an assessment can be taken instead.

ABILITY TO PADDLE THE COURSE
As previously mentioned, the course was designed with the developing paddler in mind, however we do need to control the use of the course, basically so paddlers don’t get hurt or hurt each other! To that end paddlers need to be of 3 Star ability, need to be able to make break outs or ferry glide in order to stop or slow themselves down. Users do not need to be roller’s (you can stand up in the channels!). Individual users (3 star ability) sign themselves on, and sign for their own liability, paddlers who are not of 3 star ability can be signed on as part of a group by a Coach Level 3 relevant to the craft being used. The Coach will be responsible for the group throughout, and will sign on to that effect. Paddlers / users under the age of 18 require parental consent (see below)
We are a BCU approved Centre, and AALA Licensed.
PARENTAL CONSENT
Parental consent is required for individuals under the age of 18 participating in Nene Whitewater Centre Ltd. activities, and for individuals using the artificial whitewater course. Individuals under the age of 18, who are part of a group, will need to be signed in by the group leader acting in loco-parentis, and responsible for each member of the group throughout participation of the activity. Canoeists who are paddling on the course on their own should be of BCU / National Association 3 Star ability or equivalent, they should be competent on grade 2 - 3 water, and should be able to roll in such conditions.
